How we work

Where the listings come from

Every listing is built from public information the provider publishes itself, usually its own website. We also used the member lists of the Association of Private Pet Cemeteries and Crematoria (APPCC) and the websites of crematorium groups to find providers. Each listing links to the page we used as its source.

How we check prices

We only show a price if the provider publishes it. Each price shows the page it came from and the date we checked it. If a provider doesn't publish prices, the listing says "Price not published". We never estimate, average or guess a price.

Prices are not always like-for-like. Some include collection or a casket, some are "from" prices, and some are for a weight band. We quote the provider's own wording so you can see exactly what's included.

What "Not confirmed" means

If a provider's website doesn't say whether it offers a service, such as home collection or out-of-hours help, we show "Not confirmed". That doesn't mean the service isn't offered; it means we couldn't confirm it. We only show "No" where the provider itself says so, for example a crematorium that states it carries out individual cremations only.

How listings are ordered

On town pages, listings are ordered by straight-line distance from the town centre. Providers that say they cover the town but have no published postcode are listed after them. Nobody can pay to be listed higher. If we ever show a sponsored listing, it will be clearly labelled.

Which towns get a page

We only publish a town page when at least five crematoria serve the area: either within 15 miles of the town centre, or because the provider names the town in its own coverage area. Home-visit vets and UK-wide networks are shown separately and are not counted.

Reviews and ratings

We don't publish star ratings or reviews. We haven't collected any, and we won't invent them.

If you run a crematorium, or you spot something wrong, please ask us to correct a listing. Listings are free.
