Vet vs going direct: what it really costs
What the CMA found, what vets must now tell you, and the direct prices we've checked.
Read guide →Find pet crematoria near you, see which services they offer and what they publish about price, then decide whether to arrange through your vet or go direct.
Not owned by a vet group or a crematorium. We list independent and group-owned crematoria side by side.
Every price shows its source and the date we checked it. If a provider doesn't publish prices, we say so.
No paid placement at the top of results. Any sponsored listing will be clearly labelled.
Most families arrange cremation through their vet without comparing options. The Competition and Markets Authority's order on vet services changes what vets must tell you:
The rules apply to large vet groups from the next working day after 22 December 2026, and to smaller practices after 22 March 2027. CMA guidance

It depends on the vet practice, the crematorium it uses, your pet's size and whether the cremation is individual or communal. Under the CMA's order, vets must give you cremation prices in writing before you decide and tell you that you can arrange cremation directly. You can then compare that with a crematorium's own published price, for example Yorkshire Pet Crematorium lists £150 for a cat.
Yes, you can make your own arrangements directly with a crematorium. The CMA's order requires vets to tell you this is an option. Each listing shows whether the provider says it collects from home, and 'Not confirmed' where it doesn't say.
In an individual cremation your pet is cremated on its own and the ashes are returned to you. In a communal (group) cremation several pets are cremated together and ashes are not returned. Wording varies, so check each provider's own description.
No. Of the 120 providers we list, 80 publish prices we could check online. Where a provider doesn't publish prices, we show 'Price not published' rather than guessing.
